Wyuliwaen (Wyuli for short) is a pirate unaffiliated with Limsa Lominsa, who sails the seas in search for treasures, either by discovery, or by force. He came into infamy 5 years before the Calamity, though before then he was largely unknown. An enigma, he seemingly has no history on Eorzea, and any inquiries into such are met with outright hostility or silence. Rumour has it that he's searching for powerful magicks, but for what end, nobody knows.
**Physical Abilities and Skills
**
Wyuliwaen is proficient with most bladed weapons, from daggers and one handed swords, to the far eastern style of katanas. Dual wielding is his preference, typically with his favourite weapons White Fang (a parrying knife) and Tempest (A deep blue estoc). An expert marksman, he is well suited to using bows and firearms, though he prefers the latter. Currently he favours a rifle, though he keeps his hexagun (a 6 barreled pistol) at the ready for a surprise twist.
**The way of the Corsair
**
Unlike the marauders so commonplace around Limsa, Wyuli's main job is Corsair, one who turns the tides of battle with Lady Luck at his side. Two of the core concepts to the job are the Devil's Dice and the Stacked Deck:Devil's Dice are a pair of dice that enhance the roller's stats, the effects lasting for 1 hour. Both dice are initially thrown, with the goal of getting as high as possible without hitting 12 or over. Subsequent rolls are usually with a single die, though both can be used. The higher the cumulative roll, the better the enhancement. Hitting 12 or higher constitutes a "Bust", and instead of strengthening oneself, a penalty is issued instead. Devil's Dice come in 5 colours, each attuned to a status:
Red - Strength
Purple - Dexterity
Green - Vitality
Blue - Mind
Black - IntelligenceStacked Deck is a series of coloured cards, each representing an elemental affinity and effect:
Red - Fire, Addle
Light Blue - Ice, Paralyze
Green - Wind, Knockback + Heavy
Yellow - Earth, Slow
Purple - Lightning, Stun
Dark Blue - Water, Poison
White - Light, Sleep
Black - Darkness, Dispel + Esuna
Each card holds an aetheric amount of energy equivalent to a crystal cluster, but the cards are mainly used for combat purposes. When a card is cut or pierced, the energies are transferred over to whatever broke it. That energy stays until it comes in contact with anything non-gaseous, at which point the energy surges forth, delivering the aspected damage and possibly the extra effect. Multiple cards can be used, but only at the same time, and differing cards will cancel each other out, usually in an explosive way. There is an upper usage limit of 10 cards; using more than that usually transforms the item in question into a pure elemental outburst. When 5 or more cards are used, the extra effect is guaranteed to come into play. The exception to this rule are the White and Black cards: these do not deal damage, only the effect. The more cards used, the stronger the effect.
Magical Abilities and Skills
Learned in both arts of Black and White magic, Wyuli is more attuned to the subschools of Enfeebling and Enhancing. In a way much alike to Red Mages, his spellcasting is often paired with his melee strikes, delivering his spells infused with his blades and shots. Combined with his dexterity based style of combat, it is best to liken him to a jack of all trades: outspelling what he can't outfight, and outfighting what he can't outspell. Very rarely will you see him using direct and brazenly offensive spells.
**Tradeskills/Miscellaneous
**
Wyuli is an adept blacksmith, continuing his father's legacy. Coupled with some alchemic skills, he crafts his own bullets and weapons, including the cards required for the Stacked Deck. His true craftsmanship however lies in cooking, for none can resist a good meal. As expected for a man of the sea, he prefers the bounty and catch from the depths, though with his personal history, he has a fondness for rice.Music is another pastime much loved, ranging from sea shanties, to playing a flute, and even a stringed instrument much like a lute or a gittern. Fleet of foot and sure of rhythm, he dances with ease. Whether a stately waltz, or an infectious jig, he'll join in on any festivities, perhaps with a drink in hand.Given that he is not native to Hydaelyn, channeling residual aether is something he is still getting used to. Rather, he is adept at utilizing his own aether, whether to cast his spells or infuse his own into the task at hand, combat or otherwise.
"It all began with a stone, or so the legend says. In ages past, a sentient jewel, enormous and beautiful banished the darkness. Its many-colored light filled the world with life and brought forth mighty Gods. Bathed in that light, the world entered an age of bliss. Until, after a time, the Gods fell into slumber. That world was called: Vana'diel."Wyuli Whitewolf was born to parents Ferrin and Sevara Whitewolf in the Republic of Bastok of the year 857 C.E. (Crystal Era.) Ferrin being a blacksmith of great repute and Sevara an established trader, Wyuli spent his early days watching his parents conduct business in the Metalworks with the Republic itself. However, in the year 862 C.E., a war known as the Crystal War broke out. With the self-styled Shadow Lord had raised an impressive army of beastmen and demons, and laid siege to the major cities of Vana’diel. The Quadav regularly skirmished with Bastokan forces on the fields of Gustaberg and on the Konschtat Highlands. During one such skirmish, they broke through the front lines into the neighbourhood of Port Bastok where the Whitewolf family lived. Ferrin and Sevara died that day trying to save their son during their attempt to flee to the boats when a squad of Quadavs rampaged through the area. Wyuli would have died, had it not been for a gallant pirate saving him. Clad in a deep blue jacket, armed with a sword and knife, a magnificent tricorne sitting atop a heavily bearded face, Wyuli could not help but idolize this pirate, his newfound hero. Running through the smoky streets, they made their way to the boats fleeing the city. There the pirate left Wyuli, but not without leaving with him the knife and the words “Bring it back t'me.”Unbeknownst to Wyuli, this ship was bound for Norg, home to many pirates under the guidance of Gilgamesh, who happened to be his own grandfather. Gilgamesh took special care of Wyuli, and taught him the ways of survival, piracy, and even honour. There he learned not only the sword, but the bow, firearms, and even the katanas of eastern lands. Wyuli was an apt pupil, even talented in the arts of Red Magic. He never forgot his hero though, asking and searching for any information on this pirate, but nobody knew who he was. After the Crystal War ended, Wyuli left Norg to become an adventurer, to continue his search for his hero, determined to return the knife to its rightful owner. As a man in his early twenties, he rose to fame among the throngs of adventurers. When Jeuno issued out a call to investigate the phenomenon known as Promyvion, Wyuli answered and set forth. Promyvion, or “Promised Oblivion” was a bleak hellscape. These dull grey areas were deep within the earth, with terrain and features resembling the areas above, but with one distinction: They were all pallid, grey, and splintering into nothingness. It was filled with roaming “creatures” to be known as the “Empty”. And empty they were. Hollow shells roaming in search of elemental aether to absorb. Some were tall and had legs that pierced steel, others grotesque and fat with tongues that sap strength. Here, fighting these creatures off, Wyuli lost his left eye to a Craver. Cutting off the leg that pierced his eye, Wyuli and the adventurers retreated to safety. To his horror, the white mages found a remnant of the Craver still in his eye socket. They could not heal the wound, nor could they excise it without fear of killing him. All they could do was seal the remnant in. Remembering it was a Water-aspected Craver, they kept the remnant dormant with Levin-based magic, using a fake eye aspected to such. Two years later, Wyuli was exploring the lands of Aradjiah, to where he encountered pirates who called themselves Corsairs. They fought against the Imperial Army, for they were charged with insurrection and lawlessness. In reality, they fought to reclaim their homeland. Stirring his righteous soul, Wyuli joined the ranks of the Corsairs, learning their ways. Under the flag of the Seagull Phratrie, they were successful in holding off the Imperials and their Blue Mage soldiers. During one the many fights, Wyuli discovered the lost soul of the first Corsair, Luzaf. Luzaf and Wyuli connected, with Luzaf being a ghostly mentor and Captain of a sort. Together they retrieved the fabled Commodore Jacket, the symbol of hope Luzaf then bequeathed to Wyuli to don and lead with. This all came crashing to an end, when Luzaf who had secretly made a pact with Odin the Dark Divinity, to destroy the capital of the Imperials. The Grand Vizier Razfahd knew of this, and had also resurrected a spirit, the polar opposite of Odin: Alexander The Blessed Radiance. Their clash was written in prophecy, only known to the Queen Nashmeira, who revealed to Wyuli that this would destroy the continent. Ragnarok it was named, and pleaded with him to help stop it. He agreed, and together they stopped the spirits, though Wyuli had to kill his mentor to do so. It was the first time Wyuli had to kill a Captain he admired so.After the events of Ragnarok, many years later, Wyuli returned to Jeuno, but didn’t make it there. An entity known as Atomos manifested, and swallowed Wyuli within its gaping maw. Shunting him 20 years into the past, he found himself back in the midst of the Crystal War. With help, he was able to uncover why he was sent back. Atomos was meant to devour histories that were not going to be, and someone was changing the past to erase his. He realized, long ago, he had seen himself, saving himself, and the realization that this cycle had to break. He was able to stop that who was trying to change history, but in doing so, changed his own. Atomos reappeared, and devoured him yet again.Something interfered however, and Atomos spat Wyuli out, crossing the rift and changing him permanently. He was cast to the Source, where he washed up on the coast of Bloodshore. He awoke there, with most of his memories of Vana’diel and his life there. He stumbled on the land in a daze, not realizing immediately that he was no longer a Hume, but a Roegadyn barely into adulthood.
Years passed, and Wyuli has grown accustomed to the changes wrought upon him. He has changed his name, Wyuliwaen Wyznwilfsyn, Tempestuous Wind, son of White Wolf. Still ever the pirate, he seeks out treasures, not for himself, but for the one who can either return him home, or at the very least, fix his eye, for the Empty followed with. Unfortunately, time is running out, for with the new body, memories of Vana’diel do not belong, and are slowly fading into obscurity.
Currently Wyuliwaen has found a new potential lead, a pirate from the distant lands of Aerslaent. Hearing rumours of a type of magic he hasn’t seen yet, he deems it worthy of investigation. Steering his ship with full sails to the wind, his heart flutters with a promise of a new adventure.
